About Celebrate East Lyme 07

The 9th Annual Celebrate East Lyme will be held on Saturday, July 19 in downtown Niantic. There will be a Sand Castle Competition at McCook's Point Park from 9 to 11 in the morning. In the afternoon, a two-block section of Main Street will be closed for a street festival from 3 to 9 p.m. The celebration will end with a fantastic fireworks display over Niantic Bay, sponsored by Dominion.

Drawing thousands of people from around the region, the street festival has something to offer for everyone. There will be special areas for children and teens, four music stages, a food court and cooking demonstrations by local chefs, an antique car rally, an art walk featuring some of the area's best artists and over 100 vendors lining both sides of the streets, showcasing the artisans, community groups and businesses that make East Lyme want to celebrate!

Town of East Lyme

Celebrate East Lyme is coordinated by the Town of East Lyme, its citizens, and the East Lyme Business Community as a way to recognize and promote the many businesses, community groups and artisans who live here, all while enjoying an old-fashioned summer festival by the sea. The event could not happen without the hard work, energy and enthusiasm of the Town's staff.

The Parks & Recreation Department, on top of their many duties throughout the town, have organized and managed an exciting and entertaining Sand Castle Competition. East Lyme Youth Services each year develops a Teen Area that not only provides plenty of youth-oriented activities and exposure for young talent, but also engages the Town's teens in raising money for charity. The Fire Marshal's office and Niantic Fire Department oversee the fireworks display, and, along with the East Lyme Police, ensure our safety before, during and after the event.

The Town Hall staff are always available to assist the organizers as needed, and to answer the many inquiries that arise during the planning process. Chuck Holyfield and his crew help with logistics throughout the event, from moving and setting up tables, chairs, and whatever else is needed, to cleaning up the street after all the celebrants are gone. We sincerely thank them all, and anyone else on the staff we may have omitted.
